Immigrants- Over 500 illegal immigrants, some from Guatemala, were found in a semi-truck trailer last week trying to illegally cross into the U.S. They were caught by X-Ray equipment at a checkpoint. They were captured there and did not get to go to the U.S. They said that they each paid $7,000 for the trip to the U.S. Guatemalas president declared a 'State of Seize'.
Poeple Found Dead- 27 people were found dead on a farm in Guatemala. The farm was located in the northernmost oart of Guatemala and the it borders. The cause of their death, since drug violence is increasing in Guatemala, could be linked to drug trafficking. There were 2 women and 25 men that were found dead. Whenever they found them thay said that most of them were decapitated.
Lost City- Under the rainforest in Guatemala there was found a long lost Mayan City. They first used GPS and some electronic measuring tools to locate one of the points on the 7 point building. After they located that they eventuall dug down and forund the enitre city.
Algae Bloom- There is an algea that has started to take over Guatemala's famous Lake Atitlan. The lake is usually a clear blue lake surrounded by volcanoes and mountains. Now, is has a lot of patchy, stringy algae. The nutrients that feed the algae are sewage, ag runoff, and increased runoff from deforestation. NASA space cameras can clearly show the algea in the water that is usually chrystal clear. The algea first appeared in October to November of 2009.

Guatemala lives in the shadow of Mexico and is starting to have soem of the same problems Mexico has. Guatemala had enough violence and now drug wars are just adding to it.
